Vignettes by Harold E Gerrish Jr.

Everybody has heard of  THE D-DAY, but how many know of the 5 d-days
preceding
it and of which German General, “Smiling Albert” Kesselring  later told
interviewers that
if we hadn’t pitted our strength against him at Anzio, we would never
have landed in
Normandy. When your enemy speaks of you in this manner, there is no
higher
compliment.  Here in eighty pages with thirty pictures is the story of some twenty
or so months of the
existence of  LCT (5) Flotilla 10, and its role with the U. S. Naval
Amphibious operations
in the Mediterranean,  not from someone mulling through
combat reports, but as  it was
seen with the integrity and innocence of a teenager, right
out of high school, who had
never been more than eighty miles from home.  You will find
this excellent coffee-table book  as accurate an account as ever came out
of that theater
of operations.
